For the first time ever, a book dealing with toy cars has been published
here in Austria, and there is even a Matchbox model on the cover!
I have written a little review about it: |
|
This book has just been published here in Austria: "Spielzeugautos ...eine
kleine Einführung" ("Toy cars ...a little introduction") by Martin Krusche.
It is associated with an exhibition of toys currently running in the city of
Gleisdorf, Styria, the toy car part of which has been prepared by the
author.
The contents of the book is just what the title says - a little
introduction to the world of toy cars, certainly not written for collectors
like us, but for members of the general public who may have a passing
interest in the topic.
Only a small part of the text is devoted to Matchbox, but the brand is
treated with much respect and reverence and a sufficient amount of
background knowledge. The pictures of Matchbox models almost exclusively
show playworn examples, which may have some hidden meaning I am not quite
able to decipher. Generally it shows that the author is well acquainted with
the subject,
as I have not |
 |
|
spotted any significant factual errors. The book is
written in an entertaining way and makes interesting reading even for an
"insider" like me.
For all I know this is the first ever book published in Austria featuring
a Matchbox model on the cover, which inevitably gives it some historical
importance - at least to me. |
